Like VR games and other interactive experiences, it\u2019s intended to be viewed in VR headsets. It can also be viewed on flat-screen devices, such as phone or computer.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike VR video games, which use computer-generated characters and environments, 360 videos are made by capturing live action in the real world with \u201c<strong>360 cameras<\/strong>.&#8221;\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-157 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/virtualreality\/files\/2019\/03\/VR-spectrum-300x124.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"505\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/virtualreality\/files\/2019\/03\/VR-spectrum-300x124.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/virtualreality\/files\/2019\/03\/VR-spectrum.jpg 577w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>360 video exists between the spectrum of immersion with 2D video on one end and\u00a0fully interactive VR on the other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Degrees of Freedom (DoF)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The 3DoF is composed of yaw, pitch, and roll, which are types of rotational change around the x, y, and z-axes.<\/li>\n<li>6DoF means that, in addition to the three types of rotational freedom you have in 3DoF, you<br \/>\nalso have three types of positional change: forward\/backward, up\/down, and left\/right.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Agency, Presence, &amp; Immersion<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Choosing where to look for you to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #444444;\">allow yourself to \u201ccreate\u201d your own experience of the story is called &#8220;agency&#8221;.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Agency helps generate presence. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Presence is that feeling of actually being present<\/span><span style=\"color: #444444;\">\u00a0in a VR experience. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>Immersion, which generates presence, includes the technicalities provided by hardware and software\u00a0that \u201ctrick\u201d a user into believing they are surrounded in this alternate reality.
