{"id":184,"date":"2017-06-21T22:59:04","date_gmt":"2017-06-22T05:59:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa110\/?p=184"},"modified":"2023-01-16T13:41:09","modified_gmt":"2023-01-16T20:41:09","slug":"w4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa110\/w4\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>January 23-27 &#8220;Medium Specificity&#8221;<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Outcomes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the <strong>characteristics of medium<\/strong> towards the interpretation of an image, in order to make informed material choices for their own work.<\/li>\n<li>Enact a <strong>critical<\/strong> outlook as visual readers, recognizing how meaning is cultivated and perpetuated through representation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Lecture\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This lecture will focus on properties\/medium specificity and innate characteristics of photography, and delve into its implication on how medium can influence how we read an image.\u00a0 An overview of art history featuring photography to show the evolution of how one understands document, indexical, objectivity and &#8216;truth&#8217;.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Lab<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Please use this lab to exercise concept models for photographic series projects.\u00a0 For example, have them write out a formula and then pass it on to another person, does the other person have enough direction to execute the project themselves?<\/p>\n<p>You may also wish to look at select works that use a formula, have the students debate the effects of developing and carrying out the formula.<\/p>\n<p>TECHNICAL GUIDANCE:\u00a0 You may wish to show them how a project would look in Photoshop &#8211; different layers all in one document.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Reminders<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Module 2 is due <strong>January 28<\/strong>, end of day<\/li>\n<li>Critiques for the formula will take place during the <strong>February 6<\/strong> labs<\/li>\n<li>If you wish to set up individual meetings for next week&#8217;s lab time, you might want to have them sign up for specific times this week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>January 23-27 &#8220;Medium Specificity&#8221; Outcomes Identify the characteristics of medium towards the interpretation of an image, in order to make informed material choices for their own work.
