CREATE A VISUAL ESSAY COMMENTING ON VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE RELATION BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND HUMANITY

As we have discussed throughout the term, we are assisting (and contributing) to the creation of a new visual language. This language is emerging mainly online, based on the many possibilities offered by current technologies. It is a rich mix of still and motion images, text, sounds, and other elements
Our final project will attempt to use this new language as a vehicle to reflect/express our individual ideas and experiences about the Human-Technology (H+T) relation. This visual essay can be compared to the essays you write for other classes, but this will an ‘enriched’ version, in which the use of the above mentioned elements will mark important differences.
For this project we will work using NEWHIVE. Regardless the difficulties in the service, this tool offers possibilities that best suit our goal. Unlike other sites, here the combined use of various elements can be easily achieve.
We will work on this project in various stages: each week we will converse on some aspect of the H+T relation. After each meeting we will create weekly challenges that will be components/steps of your essay.
Suggestions
As a visual essay, your work shall include ideas and opinions about several aspects of the relation between humanity and technology:
- Express your own points of view and support them with information and opinions (news, commentaries, articles) from experts and academic sources.
- These can be reflected/expressed in various media: texts, images, sounds, etc.
- Your work should reflect+express: Your ideas and points of view will be conveyed both literally (through the use of text) and through visual strategies (composition, color, visual effects, etc)
