  1. My name is Kristie Zhang. I’m now currently a third year student but haven’t majored in visual arts yet. To taking this course firstly is to achieve the requirements of majoring in visual arts. Secondly, I took visa110 last term, and I’m really enjoyed such digital thing, especially how the arts were being expressed through different kinds of technologies.

Moreover, I also hope through taking this course, I could enrich my ideas from seeing various examples and being inspired as well. What is more, since one of the goals in this course is to “explores the interrelation between technology and humanity at the turn of the 21 century”, I aim to learn through digital media in terms of such modern modes to connect the contemporary culture into arts in my own unique thoughts

  2. The image I chose is the picture took in japan with my mother by a random guy on the street. We were on the vacation to Japan that time, both of us were wearing the Japanese traditional customs.

What makes it so significant to me is that; first of all, I am a naturally homesick person, since I chose to study abroad, I barely have time getting together with my family. As so I cherished every second when I was home, especially the time we share the most happiness. My mom has a very strict and regular work schedule, it’s really hard for her to have spare time to go vacation with me which makes the picture considerably valuable to me.

Secondly, the way my mom and I get along is more like sisters, as the image illustrated in terms of her smiling at the camera meanwhile I’m gazing at her, as if following the time of the beat silently, thinking of the past good memories again. Therefore, the image contains the love, greatness, youth and time.

Last but not the least, everytime when I saw this picture, I can see her wrinkly face, I could never forgot how beautiful she used to be. My mom sacrificed her youth for me, she taught me to grow up, she told me not to give up when I fail, she supports every decision I made, she was always there for me when I was sad and told me to be strong. This picture brought me lots memories which means considerably significant to me especially when I’m alone. I set this picture as my phone background, since I have few pictures with my mother, moreover we have thousands kilometers aways from each other, which makes this image more important to me.

  4. Week2 Image of an image
Based on the week1 project what I have written, this project I wanna focus on the idea of nostalgia. Firstly, I did few researches, there are few bullet points I have came up based on the research
    website site:https://petapixel.com/2015/09/10/nostalgia-collapse-imagination/

    1970s Polaroid
    Analogue to digital
    Smartphone
    Social media
The part of the brain that is responsible for integrating past the future is the same region that is responsible for memory formation.
Research examining the psychological impact of nostalgia indicates that it mat have evolved as a resource against negative emotional reactions like sadness
Images can shape our perception of time. The ideas of dissociation and traversing are the most inspired idea of the image I made.
Both Shore and Eggleston formed a poetic nostalgia of 1970s Americana through their color photographs and snapshot aesthetic, which occurred at the same time that the amateur-friendly Polaroid SX-70 camera became popular. Based on that idea, different styles, colors, areas, times influence the idea of nostalgia relatively. For example, red color for me represent the old times, childhood, good memories. Moreover, a fixed places where bearing the most happy memories can always remind me of certain things.etc.
Imagination is the basis of the memory and future planning.
Our perception of the past is filtered as much as our perception of the future.
    The growth of technology.
In all, the article explore the rapid growth of technology which provided us with lager stage of performing art. Through the innovation of technology, you are now able to express your emotions through a flat image. For example you could photoshop it to make a flat picture however, the meaning of the picture can show us the flow of time, as well as make the image more dynamic.

The picture was shoot on George Wainborn Park at downtown Vancouver.
The use of photoshop is the idea that layer two images into one
The whole concept of this image is accompany.
The visual conductivity of my image is formed from left to the right by the river, the building and the children’s walking direction.

While I see those kids playing with each other, remind me of my childhood friends, we used to play together everyday, no stress, no fighting, no arguing, just pure friendship. As well as reminds me of my mother’s accompany. As I wrote at the first assignment, since I study in Canada, we have less time to get along. I layer the two image together to represent the idea of freeze time and its flow line. Interpreting the idea that wanted to go back to the old times, to go over those valuable memories but have to face the future reality. Therefore, the scene made me think of the joyful atmosphere I used to have with my friends. The separation of us brought me of my desire for kinship. I adjust the opacity of the two pictures, erase the overlapping parts of the building, but leave the overlapping characters to form a sense of “Everything is the same, but you are not here and I still am”. Moreover, for the choice of color, the white buildings and clouds, blue sky and ocean as well as the clothing color of the children, provides the audiences with a very natural anacreontic atmosphere, also reflect the happy, enjoyable mood of the teenagers, as well as represent the good memories of myself. Especially the girl wear the red coat attract the most, I seeing her as myself in the past (memories) since red color somehow brings me into the mood. Therefore as the entire image, it actually illustrates a little bit sad blue moods for me, like nostalgia, homesick.

when I listen to this music, my first interpretation was an open empty Catholic Church. In the middle of the church there was a field of unknown white flowers. Moreover, the sun light came right across the glass and reflected on the flowers. I feel a sense of calmness, and relief.
The wall of the church is little bit old, but it doesn’t affect my appreciation of its beauty

I chose the page 85– finger exercise
    perform with fingers 1983

When I start to think of an question, I can’t help fiddling with my fingers. This might inspired me a lot with this assignment. The constant ghosting and the sound of the pointer is a sign of deep anxiety, feeling very uncertain about everything (mainly the future). Especially, comes the midterm weeks, tons of projects and exams drive me crazy, I’ve been anxiety and irritability for the entire weeks. All those feelings actually brings me inspiration to this project
