To answer the question of the relationships, I would like to use a question as the answer. The question “what can we create” is the focus of this work and I used my mother language for the question I brought up. In Chinese, “what can we create?” is “我们能创造什么呢?”. This sentence will appear repetitively in the work and create its own space.
So I made this work with newhive and the website was working on the weekends, however, I cannot open it right now. It is loading forever. Hope it will work tomorrow..
I actually had a hard time working on this. The main reason being that the questions that were posed to us were so broad and open-ended. In many ways I think technology has given us a kind of ‘freedom’ to create art using different mediums. But at the same time some art made using technology is trapped in the digital world. That made me think about reality and the different realities that exist for each individual. I do not know if I can come up with a single answer for each question. The one thing I do believe is that the relations between art, technology and freedom cannot be clearly defined and our different for every person.
I did not really know how to approach this idea as a visual. But here’s an image I made while thinking about these questions. I found that thinking about these questions actually led to more and more questions but less answers.

Hi Hareem,
To be honest I had quite a difficult time working on this too though I really like the approach you took to your representation of the three questions! The background image makes me feel very isolated and alone, while I am drawn to the colourful computer that stands out as a focal point. Nonetheless, the question mark on the computer’s display adds a bit of uncertainty and confusion. I am left wondering if approaching the computer would be a safe idea, or if the computer is simply a display/façade meant to entice viewers and, soon afterwards, trap them or harm them somehow. Very nice work!!
Art Tech Freedom

I had hoped to post my image through new-hive as I thought it captured my piece well, utilizing moving image and sound, but unfortunately I was unable to finish my project through the website because it hasn’t been able to load for the past couple of days (hopefully ill be able to complete and post it soon!) That being said I made some what of a replica of what I wanted to do through photoshop.
To me ART/TECHNOLOGY/FREEDOM all relate through social media. Humanity, especially teens, have become so reliant on online platforms they they forget to live in the present. People just need to melt their plastic smiles and return to their own authenticity.

Hi Katherine
Social media is certainly an area where all of of these concepts converge! I really like your use of the ‘TIME’ magazine title and cover design. This appears to display the significant role that social media plays on the lives of many teens, putting social media ‘directly in the spotlight.’
The text and pixelation used also makes a lot of the image, including the portrait in the background, feel artificial –
I was finally able to access NewHive and finished the piece I originally wanted to submit for this assignment!

In the image there is a poem I wrote. It is intentional that you are not able to read the whole poem but in case you were interested as to what it was saying here you go:
It’s not worth it,
The plastic smiles that hang in your closet
You wear the same one everyday
Molded into a fake character
That you don’t even know you own name
You avoid authenticity as if it’s not allowed
Not proud of the life you live,
Crowned a fake, but you try to stand loud and tall
To let them know that you love life,
You love your life or you love your likes?
Numbers feed your happiness
A list of followers you think are your friends, your family,
But can’t you tell it’s all pretend? A fairy tale with a wicked end.
You tell yourself you’re not lonely
Because your screen lights up your life
Yet you scream to be seen
Just like everyone else
A filter, a mask
competing to be among the famous
Because dogs only chase moving cars
Glued to your face, gum stuck
Addicted to this lonely drug
As you constantly scroll your display,
Walking past swings and blowing leaves,
That stop still in the face of the latest Facebook updates
Can’t you see it?
Once you actually take time to look in the mirror,
Wash your disguise off with water
Make your look clear.
Your face an isolated reflection of
Heart emojis that don’t actually mean love
Of followers that don’t actually mean friends
Spend some time in real life.
Art / Technology / Freedom

I initially found myself feeling quite lost while attempting to represent the relation between each concept within an image. Many different ideas came to mind but none of them seemed appropriate. At first, I wanted to consider the positive impact that technology can have on both art and freedom, especially with regard to bringing people together. However, while working on this assignment, I started to ponder over the times that technology can limit these two concepts – i.e. segregating people from one another – and what this could look like visually.
This was the end result. ಠ_ಠ
Tech makes art more developed, realistic and it gives an opportunity to people to create what they want.
i think there are no wrong, right approach to make an artwork. Creating an artwork gives us freedom to create the artwork the ways we want.

Weekly challenge: Art/Technology/Freedom

This is mostly a response to the relation between technology and freedom – technology promises freedom, and it does offer us freedom in many ways, including creating art. I wanted to focus on one of the questions rather than all of them, even though there are overlaps.
I wanted to post it on Newhive, but it’s down, even though the video would be the same – just thought the site would be a better medium than YouTube.
Art, Technology & Freedom
Waited an entire afternoon for Newhive to open and it’s still thanking me for my patience so, here’s a GIPHY upload.

Hahahaha, same here, it’s been thanking me since last night. XD
I try to create an interactive space for people to involve in, but eventually I don’t know what I am doing…
I intend to insert clear instruction in the video so that it conveys a direct information. That is what technology can do. Digital media is able to deliver messages quick and simple.
However, somehow technology also make information becomes ambiguous. The degree of how much information should be delivered is under control. And what we call freedom is not actually freedom. What we call digital art is hard to fit into hight art category.

This was quite hard to put as an image because I had so much to say and wanted to show but I just couldn’t present it in the image. But I thought of this as one of my finest idea that I had.
I tried to combine everything with technology and art and freedom at the same time.

Hi, Krystal. I think your image definitely displays the element of technology, freedom and art, which combine the dream and the reality together. It is really interesting.

Tech and freedom interacts with each other tech is a multivariate thing, as a result, the mountain is mountain itself, however, it somehow not regard as its color.
Water represents freedom, but freedom is an open concept, so they are not naturally human beings think they should be the color. They belong to human cognition, at the same time the two echo collide out of human cognition

this is the new link for my assignment as the previous one is not working. Newhive has cancelled my previous account without any reason.
