This image depicted what the inner emotion is from her self-portrait, showing how she observed herself from a personal view rather than being interrupted by outward opinions from other people. As an image, it includes so many bright colors and used the digital technique to put them as a form of her own fancy about what she looks like. There is a combination as her thinking of self-portrait with the use of technique organized this exaggerated face showing up her amazing or disgusting feeling. In addition, this image draw easily viewer attention to expression of the face, both the viewer and its creator have a chance to explore personal meanings to themselves, which it is important for an artists, or an artistic observer, to comprehend their own experience of the same work.

This work combined three different images talking about the beach and ocean, one dynamic graph showed up the artist’s own experience of the nature. It perfectly told viewers personal feeling of that scenery, and related to the idea of “three distinctive forms of the chair”. From this work, we could see how art works through the digital techniques that cerated during modern life.Firstly, it makes a connection between our experience and relationship with art. Secondly, this image is beyond the objective view of the ocean, tend to be an inner expression transformed in our vision. Both the viewers and artists could communicate with this unique experience and share, contrast with the feeling among people. This image includes ideas that we never know what is the real, but someone can tell viewers what the real means to themselves, as a presentation that we understand.

Regarding this image, first I would like to say that I think it’s amazing. I love the dark colors that kind of contrast with the view of apples and fruits being this bright and sunny thing that is good for you. I greatly enjoyed the use of how the apple is also something that represents things that be considered as evil. Such as the garden of eden, Apple products taking over the world, and the industrialization that comes with the progress needed or brought about by these things. Overall it was very interesting seeing this stark difference from my usual expectations of what an apple is.

The next image is also an apple one. But this image goes more along the lines of what I was expecting regarding what is an apple. Specifically in how this image makes me think of an apples taste. I don’t know why, but looking at this image made me think about what apples taste like, and how to describe that visual sensation with a flavorful sensation. Of which these are fairly different things that are hard enough to describe already. In the end, this image made me hungry for an apple, which in my book is a very good thing.

  3. 1. http://newhive.com/kaijugroupie/self-portrait
This image is from the “pixels of the real” assignment, the self-portrait was attracting my attention. The combination of all of the stuffs from her daily uses is amazing. I assumed that she uses bright colour to show her confident and positive life style. This image gives me a visually enjoyment and a huge interest about her life.

This image is from the “What is an apple” assignment, when I saw this image, I felt exactly what I feel when I am eating an apple. She uses splash water to demonstrate the juicy feeling of an apple. The technique uses is very carefully and I can imagine how a solid apple become a juicy water.

When creating just about anything I am always looking for simplicity (simple not basic) in the result; regardless of the complexity that may lie beneath the surface I always hope that something can be viewed or listened to with ease. From this point of entry a the viewer/listener can then move forward into their analysis but I think more importantly as the creator it conveys an objectiveness. This piece appeals to me in this way; simple as I view it but immediately expanding. It is dynamic yet only ha a few elements which I think is greatly effective!

This short clip could be the visual contemporary update to the classic by Claude Debussy. I wish it was a little longer and took me on a journey like that of Claire de Lune but It does evoke emotions in me; ones similar to those that find me when I listen to the original song. Beauty, wonder, bliss, excitement…

  5. Claire de lune is a musical production that has the power to trigger an array of feeling. Indeed, the listener may experience, joy, melancholia, sadness, or other vivid sensation that greatly contrast with the delicateness of this music. Therefore, a visual representation should shrewdly represent this paradox, while respecting the harmony that emanates from the song. Selina yang
’s production exemplarity how an image can create a cohesiveness between thee delightfulness of the song and the intense, and peraphs even harsh, emotions prompt by an artistic work. Indeed, the contrast between the darkness of the plain back ground and the sharpness of the white may lines may portray the contrast between the softness of the song and the vividness of the emotion of the listener. Moreover, the gradual apportion of the line seems to mirror the evolution of the song which, just like the animated image, gradually intensify itself.

An apple is a product that we all know and consume on a regular basis. Thus, the answer to what is an apple, seems, at first glance, obvious. However, portraying what is exactly the sensation that eating an apple procures us, is perhaps, trickier than it seems. Depicting, how it’s grisliness, softness, crunchiness, feels to us personally, requires not only an investigation of our personal emotions regarding a food product, but also the ability to visually represent it. In Blyth’s work, the apple seems to be boundlessly floating into the air, perhaps to represent its lightness and the fact that an apple does not need any other component to provoke a pleasing sensation. Moreover, there is certainly a correlation between the fact that he apple is floating into the air and the one that the fruit is turning into water. The decomposition of the apple into water may portray its temporality, the fact that the sensation that it procures, just like the apple itself is ephemeral.

This image reminds me a lot of the saying of 3 apples changed the world, which are the one Adam and Eve eats, the one fell on Newton’s head, and the Apple founded by Steve Jobs. This piece of work is different from other works in the apple assignment, which is not talking about the fruit “apple”, but the “apple” in a different definition. I think it is interesting that this work shows the possibility of language, and it shows the potentials of image in communication.

I can relate to this image a lot. As a student, we are always dealing with assignments, working either on computer or with pen and paper. I really like the choice of GIF in this image because, for me, that is how a student’s life is like – always looping. The gif of the crowd at the back is what studying in a big university like – we meet a lot of people every day and I feel that I am so tiny in this big community. Overall I feel a bit anxious looking at the image, just like how I feel every day as a student.

  7. Claire de Lune piece: http://newhive.com/galenallan/clair-de-lune-visual-response
The presentation included a combination of still visuals, word and a video.
As a whole, the work played with colours and the video to evoke certain emotions of longing, loss and nostalgia when combined with the song.
I like how the artist used the smaller size of the video to almost show this memory where people are leaving. I might be adding my own context here but it seems like a collage of movement, someone losing her peers, family etc due to them having to leave.
This is where I find the importance of the words “Don’t Go”. Their presence, to me, represents the artist, which might be why the words are placed on the larger, brighter (in colours) background.
The song in the background supplies this peaceful yet deeply sad atmosphere to the piece, I think it’s a great way to visually represent whatever emotions Claire de Lune might have had on the artist.

What is an apple assignment: http://newhive.com/sherrylu/what-is-an-apple
I really enjoy what the artist did in this piece. The apple is still recognizable in general shape and colours however, the interior of the apple is a collage of shapes that draw you in.
The outside of the apple has this abstract pixel, 8-bit feel to it, almost reflecting on the crunchy characteristics of an apple. The middle wormhole like effect, to me, reflects the soggy texture of red apples (green ones tend to be more sharp).
It’s a really creative way and colourful to represent an apple by just using the senses you get from a red apple. I also really appreciate the size of the whole piece, it could’ve been bigger but I think that this size almost animates the entire piece and places it well behind the white background.

  8. 1. http://newhive.com/bmaricle/claire

What struck me most about this work is how much it spoke to Claire de lune without having the actual song playing as part of the work. I find that all the aspects of this image entice different senses: the images of the piano invites music to my ears, the dancing couple gives me a feeling of warmth, intimacy as well as the physical feeling of movement. Lastly, the down pour like background reminds me of a constant beat, giving a lulling and calming effect. It can be said that this image could match any somber piano ballad, but I think it is this very point that makes it successful. I feel that this image was able to imitate the way music can make a person feel.

    2. https://newhive.com/mdchen/2017_01_31

This image is a great example of the impact a title can have to the work of art it is attached to. This image is simple but yet so effective in capturing the notion of memory. In a somewhat similar fashion to Malevich’s ‘Black Square’ and Louis’ ‘Blue Veil’, I find that this image depicts memory as it’s own entity. Instead of being confronted with clear pictures from a past experience, we are confronted with these very blurred stains of colour. There are no distinguishable figures however the colours imply substance while the white spaces are reminiscent of ‘missing pieces’; or a lack of remembrance. The blur indicates this sense of fog or fuzziness that comes with receding memories. This image is truly encapsulates the feeling and act of memory.

I really enjoyed Noelle’s piece here, as it reminds me of time waiting, passing and how it shown in different ways, through city light, awaiting train, and calm clouds. It suggests a timeless feel although it suggests time is passing by. The 4 GIFs she put together, to me, fits very well with each other and with the music, as the music has always given me a calm and somewhat sad feeling when listening to it, even though it has no lyrics suggesting its emotions. The combination of the GIFs and the piece as a whole has the same effect to me, as no exact text suggest an emotion; however, they all combine to trigger an emotion for me.

    https://newhive.com/sherrylu/when-i-was-on-the-stagePR

The beauty of this piece led me to relate what the artist has created to the environment, in a way that suggests the beauty of nature has been left behind and can only be reminded through art. The use of one colour, red, makes the piece simple yet powerful, as it takes the audience’s attention to the balloon but the artist, either purposefully or not, placed it at the corner suggesting, to me, that it’s either letting its viewer know that it’s where this piece, or the story, starts, or it’s telling the audience that, it’s nothing important, it’s just a balloon. As the text at the bottom says, “Nothing Is Here” and then having a title called “When I was on the Stage”, makes me, as a viewer wonder, why “nothing” and how this “nothing” relates to the “I” being on stage. Could the artist be relating herself to the “nothing” when she’s on stage?

  10. 1.https://newhive.com/alema848/what-is-an-apple
This is heavy culturally-loaded apple. What apple is for the artist has crossed the line between contemporary and ancient, reality and mystery. However, the overall impression that the artist creates is dark and heavy, not positive feeling about the apple. To be specific, the meaning of the apple is visualized by the fusion of three parts. The context in the left upper corner is telling that apple has an evil and seductive side that corrupts Adam and Eva. On the right corner, the iconic images of different social media, video website and search engine are intertwined, seemingly connecting apple with the powerful and overwhelming virtual world. In the bottom part is a full view of a city with complex highway and skyscrapers, alluding to a industrialized society, but the connection between image of city and apple is not as obvious as the other two.

This image puts four different animated gif and static image together to show the routine of the artist. These four images are layered and also juxtaposed with each other, conveying the relationship and ranking of images. the count-down is on the top, next is the animated gif of the crowd, then is a group of 4 or 5 images of pen, at the bottom is the paper with lines. In my own perspective, the artist is trying to convey a anxious, exhasted feeling created by the mundane life, and what she is striving for in this ordinary life may not actually satisfy her,

What strikes me first about this piece is that the sound and image seem to go together very well: before the audio loaded, I had already associated peace and tranquility with the image; when the audio did load, it felt like the whole piece really came together. I felt there was a certain theme that the artist worked with– maybe something along the lines of the sense of tranquility that comes with the absence of excessive/unneeded things (the lack of colour, the objects being in basic shapes and forms, the lack of a background, etc). Now I’m just curious about what I would’ve pictured in my mind if I had heard only the audio instead.

This work really left an impression of me during and after class, although I’m not exactly sure why. I do know, however, that I really like how this piece was clearly arranged with aesthetic in mind while seeming to convey haphazard actions at the same time (careful arrangement of the images– an image in colour is always juxtaposed against an image in greyscale– vs the arbitrary arrangement of the objects themselves, namely the keys and the earbuds). I think it successfully presents a day in the artist’s life, as reflected on in the title of the work: “ONEDAY”

  12. 1) http://newhive.com/mdchen/2017_01_25-1

Assignment was to create a self-portrait or a depiction of a daily routine through the objects that surround you. From my point of view, the visual aspect of the image shows regular bedroom of the student, which contains simple looking furniture. However, due to the completely white background with no sign of up and down, the picture has a touch of surreal. Sounds that support the image lift the surrealism even more and remind me a state of meditation or dreaming.

    2) http://newhive.com/galenallan/clair-de-lune-visual-response

Assignment was to create the image of the composition Clair de Lune. In my opinion, this image successfully represents it not only visually, but through sound too. The video itself would be a excellent addition to the Clair de Lune, by showing moments from the real life that create feelings, which are very similar to the ones given by the music. However, the artist has made a great decision to use another sound, that highlighted this emotional state and made the work original.

  13. I really enjoyed the combination of audio and video in your piece, Galen. The audio definitely played upon my feelings of nostalgia. The visuals, not in the video, were comprised of dull colours alluding to fading memories and longing. These are the feelings that i found to be most important conveyed in Clair de Lune’s composition.

    http://newhive.com/galenallan/clair-de-lune-visual-response

This may not convey the exact qualitative experience of biting into an apple, at least for me, but I think that it plays upon a narrative that we have all heard before. I find the combination of the appropriated traditional and modern narratives work in harmony. The animation of the apple that Eve is holding and the clip from Pulp Fiction both intensify the moral of the story from the biblical tale.
