I am Janie, ethically Taiwanese but is technically an American. I was born and raised in San Francisco until 12 and moved to Taiwan due to parents’ jobs. I can never be sure how to answer the question “where are you from?” when someone asks me. I consider myself as an American who lives in San Francisco but in reality, I haven’t been staying there for longer than a month since 12. I don’t think I will ever really call myself a Taiwanese since I have been considered as a foreigner to the actual “Taiwanese” since day 1. Yet I spend more time in Canada now rather than San Francisco or Taiwan. So do I say I am from Vancouver? I do not know what the right answer is. I guess my answer to that question (a very common but also surprisingly difficult one,) will maintain “TBD” until the day I settle down in one city.
(But maybe I want to move around and not settle down until I can’t move? who knows?)
I wasn’t sure what should I expect from this class before I register it. However, it was proven that expect nothing and let the fact surprise you is the best kind of expectation you can ever make — this class turns out to be more interesting than I expected (well, I held no expectations but I did make some assumptions.)
Personally, my favorite kind of medium is drawing, I am obsessed with hand-drawn/written things. I kind of got into print media (or at least experienced the fun of it) after last term. Yet I am probably best at making artworks through photography (digital photography though, I haven’t had the chance to try out film photography but it is definitely on the list.)
I have always believed that digital art can visualize a bigger and wilder imagination comparing to other mediums. Digital art is also more accessible, you don’t really have to be good at drawing or painting or anything to be good at making digital arts. I like how digital art has no limitations and it is pleasantly interesting to discover more methods to manipulate the universe I am creating with digital art as I am working on it.
I wasn’t sure if my comment on the challenge page was posted successfully because I can’t see it but it told me that I have posted it. So I am posting it here again.
Who am I?
