Week 6- Midterm Reflections
There are two parts to this project:
-
-
- Exploration of Onenote: You are required to work with a classmate: Using our website arrange for a meeting (you may start your collaboration in person and then continue online). Together, create a Onenote page that reflects on the following questions:
- What is an Image?
- What is our relation to images?
- What is Art?
- What is the power images exert on us?
- Can images change society?
- Can Art change the World?Â
- Create an image of your peer.
- Exploration of Onenote: You are required to work with a classmate: Using our website arrange for a meeting (you may start your collaboration in person and then continue online). Together, create a Onenote page that reflects on the following questions:
-
The goal of this project is twofold:
-
-
- To collaborate in exploring the possibilities of OneNote as a visual medium
- To continue our ongoing reflection of images as translations/ associations/ re-presentations of our experiences
-
Comments
-
- For both tasks use Onenote. I suggest that you focus your meeting on learning together about the software: What it offers as a design/research tool; how work+collaborate online, how to make your page available to the rest of the class online
- Your portrait will have a very open approach: As in previous projects you can combine visuals, texts sounds, etc. (it doesn’t have to contain an actual picture of your peer). Please think of your work as something you are saying to the rest of us about them, but also as something you want to give them as a present: It will be, after all, February 14th!
If someone want to collaborate and group with me, please contact me at my email: 956588915@qq.com

Our group mainly focuses on the question “What is our relation to images?”

Through this image, I can figure out that Caixi may be a gentle, quiet person. The decorations (flower) and the white cat are the two symbols to present.

It’s cool! Like a lonely, mysterious, and introversive person. But the white light makes him brilliant, and interesting. (unique light of individuality)
Nice groupwork!
I can develop my understanding of “image” in the aspect of function, relation, form and image creator.

I appreciate your inclusion of contemporary examples of the power of images (ex. memes, photoshopped images, images of Tide Pods, etc.). This makes your poster effective in its presentation of the power of images, particularly within today’s context.
Our project focuses on the relationship between world, society, art and images.

Nice work.
And for the portrait, I think you really catch each others’ characteristics by exploring the social media. Kangkang’s portrait is used by overlapping layers and her artworks, and they are the symbols of her. As for Stephen’s portrait, the colorful combination has strong visual strike!

My partner portrait is of Will Dickson. It is an animated GIF. I realized that OneNote does not show animation in GIFs, so I have provided both the OneNote link to the image (which only shows the first frame of the GIF), and a Google Docs link (which shows the full animation).

My portrait portrait of Stephanie Bueno
https://www.instagram.com/p/BfutzCCDx3J/?taken-by=willdickson_visa210
I really like this piece, for two reasons:
1. Having met Stephanie, I feel that this piece reflects both her personality and energy. The tranquil nature of the mountain scene communicates a sense of peace and balance, which I believe Stephanie possesses as a part of her personality. However, the glowing, multi-coloured water also seems to communicate feelings of fun and amusement, which aligns with Stephanie’s personable energy.
2. The piece has a very contemporary feel to it, as it is a GIF and it includes a range of neon colours which seem to be indicative of modern images. I think that this kind of image makes sense for Stephanie, as she seems to be a very creative, modern-thinking, and progressive person. It is also visually stimulating.
Thanks for sharing!
Love this portrait! And I guess Stephanie must be romantic, gentle and interesting. It is the magic of image. The dynamic gif is a good way to represent the person because it provides more imagination.
My portrait of Catherine Chang

This piece is very interesting. Two things stand out for me:
1. The contrast. There is significant contrast between the navy blue and black squares, against the rainbow squares, against the white background. This suggests to me that Catherine is perhaps a very multifaceted person, with very different sides to her identity.
2. The layering. The image involves a lot of layering, creating a sort of collage. It makes the image interesting to look at, and also suggests to me that Catherine perhaps has multiple layers as a person, and that these layers are perhaps very different.
Thanks for sharing!
When I saw this picture, it reminds me of lonely, mysterious, unknown, but interesting! The squares and color here are the reasons

Warm, freedom, such kind of words come into my mind when I say this picture. The color and overlapping emphasized that, and I can even imaging the sound of the picture. The natural scene here really works.
My portrait of Ophelia (Yingqiu Zhao):
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1vwX9L3P3lUtXoLkAT6anOiaBg1A7S36Z
I think blue is Ophelia’s color, because when I looked at her social media, I felt that she is a girl who likes traveling and photography. When I met her at the first time, I felt she is quite introversive but later I found that she has her own inward world. Therefore, I use the waves to represent her passion and enthusiasm.

“Everything can be art”
I love this statement and I really think the word “can” is accurate!
Everything has the possibility to be art, but not everything “is” art!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UWpEIAz–sbdRMAeINomto1XsfnwoX-E/view?usp=sharing
I like the color you chosen, and from the portrait I felt that Jenie may be a independent, quite introversive person with her own wonder-world (because of the waves, and I think it is a symbol of inward world)
Portrait of Hedy

Really love this one and it’s me!
Thank you for your hard work and I really appreciate that. By the way, I always use the cat to be the symbol of myself.
I really like this piece. While all the images are quite different in subject matter, they come together nicely as a cohesive whole. The image portrays feelings of gentleness and softness, which are traits that I am sure Hedy possesses. 🙂
