After familiarizing yourself with the parts and functions of your camera, please shoot a roll of film experimenting with exposure (light-shadows balances), depth of field, close ups and landscape scenes, etc.
This is an introductory exercise to the use of the camera. There is no particular subject or approach. The main goal of this assignment are:
- Learn to operate your camera experimenting with what the correlation Aperture-Shutter Speed- Depth of Field offers in terms of creative possibilities.
- Familiarize yourself with the functioning and feeling of your camera: As a photographer, the camera will be an extension of your body and a mediator of your experiences. Be mindful of this. Remember our discussion in class about the ways in which the camera positions us in the world.
Tips
- Before going out and shooting, I recommend you spend as much time as possible using/playing with your camera without a roll in it. This will bring your camera to its optimal state after a long sleepĀ and make you feel comfortable changing the different parameters.
- You can buy your film in several stores in town:
Broadway Camera
Leo’s Camera
Beau Photo
- As a back up to the light metter in your camera, download a light-metering app in your phone.
