Learning goals

  • Thoroughly understand the physical basis of photography
  • Be familiar with a general history and philosophy of photography
  • Efficiently operate your camera making creative use of its different functions.
  • Comfortably manage film developing and darkroom printing processes.
  • Learn to “see” photographically. By this I roughly mean the skill to mentally visualize a number of compositions from a given scene; which will eventually develop into a systematic awareness of our surroundings.
  • Develop a basic personal photographic grammar

  1. – To develop a stronger visual vocabulary informed through both engaging with contemporary and historical photography
    – To learn to draw from vast ranges of media and domains of knowledge (not limited to the visual arts, but to literature, science, music, etc) to create an informed and idiosyncratic expression of ideas
