{"id":87,"date":"2016-08-28T17:18:38","date_gmt":"2016-08-29T00:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/?page_id=87"},"modified":"2017-08-16T11:41:10","modified_gmt":"2017-08-16T18:41:10","slug":"assignments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/assignments\/","title":{"rendered":"Assignments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coursework is broken down in two sections, the first being in-class academic reading, writing, activities and projects, the second being the CBEL component and related activities and assignments.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>CBEL Component:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The CBEL component will consist not only of the hours towards the project that you will accomplish with your institutional partner, but projects, journals and in-class presentations that will accompany the experience.\u00a0 You will set a plan towards how to approach the first meeting with your partner, followed by a plan as to how you will approach the project.\u00a0 This will be accompanied by academic, professional and personal goal-setting, pre and post reflection journals, and in-class conversations.\u00a0 You will be expected deliver a presentation on your institution in class at various stages, sometimes in more formal settings, other times as group work.\u00a0 You will engage in peer\/self and supervisor reviews, and examine critically, your growth process and engagement.\u00a0 The CBEL component will also include a final project summary detailing your experience, and a creative response to present on the final class get-together.\u00a0 Throughout the course and throughout your experience we will be revisiting, on many occasions, ways to define the artists\u2019 role in society.<\/p>\n<p>CBEL Component Breakdown:<\/p>\n<p>P\/F\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/orientation-meeting\/\">Orientation<\/a> Meeting with Partner\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(this is Pass\/Fail of the entire component)<br \/>\n6%\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/project-outline\/\">Project Organization\/Plan<\/a> (in pairs if working on same project)<br \/>\n7%\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/partnership-presentation\/\">Poster Presentation<\/a> of Institute Partner (in pairs) and blog post<br \/>\n4%\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/reflection-journals\/\">Pre-Reflection<\/a> (goal setting)<br \/>\n8%\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In-class Activities for CBEL Partnership<br \/>\n10%\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/reflection-journals\/\">Post-Reflection<\/a><br \/>\n22%\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Engaged Learning, sum of 50-hour placement by way of project materials<br \/>\n<u>\u00a08%<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visa375\/creative-response\/\">Creative Response<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>65%\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Total Weight of Final Mark<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Work:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The other half of the course will accompany your CBEL experience with topic-based discussions on the many facets of the role of the artist in society. This will include readings, writing, reflection activities, a screening, studio and other artist visits.\u00a0 Your experience will not solely illustrate the readings and terms learned in class, but act as an extension to how they are complicated by your interests, strategies of representation, process, medium, and situation. You will also contribute to the community with writing projects, such as an exhibition review and\/or artist interview, and you will also extend this to place yourself by researching and writing a personal artist statement. \u00a0The \u201cOverall Artistic Growth\u201d category contributes to recognizing the many obstacles you may face and overcome through the duration of the course, that are essential to your growth as an artist.\u00a0 What this can also mean is that what is commonly referred to as a \u2018blunder\u2019 \u2013 which are in fact necessary learning opportunities. I (as the Instructor) see these moments as an integral challenge that you can choose to pursue and overcome.
