What is Human? II

As we have discussed, an important part of our class is an ongoing experiment on writing. We are attempting to carry out our reflections appropriating new modes/technologies of writing emerging from online platforms. These new ‘languages’ reflect and shape our contemporary sensibilities, stemming from the current stage of the technohuman evolution.

Our appropriations can produce what might be termed as ‘Technopoetry’; a language aligned with the goals of Cyborg Politics: “the struggle for language and the struggle against perfect communication, against the one code that translates all meaning perfectly, the central dogma of phallogocentrism” (Haraway, 176)

Most of the works created before strongly relay on visuals alone and many certainly succeed at that. However, there is also an important set of personal comments and reflections in your individual pages and comments that remain detached from the work as just a background work.

What I am inviting you guys to do is integrate the two sides of your work for this class in a hybrid from: to combine the visuals you created in the first version of the assignment with the notes, comments and citations that originated them.

Video is of course the most obvious choice. There are several other tools/media that can be used, many of them are very easy to use and yet offer many possibilities. I always point to Newhive.com because it provides a perfect context: it is a platform designed for artists invested in exploring these potential ‘new language’. You can read the help file with all the instructions in some 10 min but is not even necessary, is very intuitive.

Another free and very versatile (and more robust) platform is One Note: available for OS, Windows and Android. Lastly, Britney has offered a workshop on the application she used to create her project.
