English 301 is a course offered by the University of British Columbia that focuses on online and written communication in a professional setting. During the summer term, it is offered as an online course where students will prepare various pieces of written communication such as abstracts, proposals, applications, reports, emails and more. In this course, students are expected to work independently as well as collaboratively with fellow students. Feedback will be provided by the instructor on a regular basis.
I have a few expectations for this course. For one, I hope to improve my general writing skills. I want to be confident in my writing and be able to write meaningful passages with little hesitancy. I believe this course can help me achieve that through the weekly assignments along with the instructor and peer feedback. Speaking of peers, I also hope to improve my communication skills by taking this course. Communication is an important skill to have especially in a professional setting and this course emphasizes this greatly through group collaboration. Finally, by the end of this course, I hope to have a professional online presence.
