Hello!
My name is Vishnu Rengan and I am a third year bachelor of computer science (BCS) student at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
Previously I have completed a degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta. Although I enjoyed the math and physics in the program, I realized during my upper years that maybe electrical engineering was not the best fit for me. After I graduated, I took some time off to reflect on what I really wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. During this time, I travelled to Japan with my friends and to India to visit my family. I also volunteered with Project Adult Literacy Society in Edmonton where I taught basic math and English to adults looking for extra help. One day, I came across this second degree program at UBC and thought it was a perfect fit. I applied almost right away, and here I am.
Although I have experience working as an Engineering Student, I am still waiting to kick-start my professional computer science career. In particular, I am interested in the field of machine learning and the profound impacts it can have on society. As a result, I have focused on taking statistics and data science courses during my time at UBC. Having taken a machine learning course last term, I am also considering graduate school to learn even more. As a co-op student, I am hoping to gain industry experience during my time as a student so that I can make a more informed decision about my future.
Thank you for reading my blog!
