Feasibility of FOBT cards for Metagenomic Shotgun Sequencing

Population-based cohort studies with stool samples collected before disease diagnoses are an ideal resource for investigating the impacts of gut dysbiosis on chronic disease. While it is ideal to collect and immediately freeze bulk stool samples, such collections are impractical for most large-scale studies. We evaluated the feasibility of collecting stool samples using Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) cards, commonly used for colorectal cancer screening, from a subset of participants of the BC Generations Project (BCGP).
