Our Stories Begin
Dobson and Willinsky (2011) conclude their essay Digital Literacy with the directive “We must attend to where exactly and by what means digital literacy can be said to be furthering, or impeding, educational and democratic, as well as creative and literary ends.” (pg. 22)
This blog has been created in part as a response to that directive. It starts with the emergence of oral literacy and progresses using stories of death as a literary construct, because
we all – in the end – die in medias res. In the middle of a story.
Of many stories.
Mona Simpson (2011)
This makes the death story ideal because it has no official beginning or end and therefore reflects the fluidity of changes as literacy and associated technologies progress through time.
