The Mik&#8217;Maq trace <a title=\"their history\" href=\"http:\/\/www.muiniskw.org\/pgHistory1.htm\">their history<\/a> to <a title=\"Paleo Indians\" href=\" http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paleo-Indians\">Paleo Indians<\/a> of the <a title=\"Paleolithic era\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paleolithic\">Paleolithic<\/a> era. Given that the Mik&#8217;Maq lands were on the East Coast of Canada it was only a matter of time before they would receive visitors from foreign lands. Evidence of one of the earliest visitors is a <a title=\"Norse settlement\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pc.gc.ca\/lhn-nhs\/nl\/meadows\/natcul\/fouilles_excavate.aspx\">Norse settlement<\/a> in the land now referred to as <a title=\"Vinland\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vinland\">Vinland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"As one story goes\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pc.gc.ca\/lhn-nhs\/nl\/meadows\/natcul\/saga.aspx\">As one story goes<\/a>, the native people and the new visitors got along well for a time until one day when boat loads of warriers descended upon the new arrival&#8217;s settlement. The natives, far outnumbering the foreigners, were victorious.
