Research Team Outline

Proposed Research Topic

This site will engage in an assessment of the effects of technology-specifically digital media such as online journals, online publishing, and social media sites-may have on Canadian literature in terms of the possibilities of increased inclusiveness, diversity, and a potential de-centralizing of Canadian literary canon. We will talk about the changes in the accessibility of Canadian literary canon in terms of receiving and circulating ideas, the possibility of the inclusion of a wider diversity of voices into a national literary dialogue, and the way technology has and will change publishing and what is included in the Canadian literary canon.

We are interested in assessing the effects of various technologies on the content and nature of Canadian literary canon due to our experiences in promoting and circulating ideas and research to create our own microcosmic literary and research canon within this course. We were also inspired to explore this topic by our examinations of the interventions proposed by Ian Rae’s “The Case for Digital Poetics” and Larissa Lai’s “Journals in Digital Space: Electronic Circulation, Cultural Commons, and Intellectual Labour.”
