This page is for my CFE reflection, experience and how this experience can transfer to my teaching and what I can take back to the classroom.
Inter relation between subject areas.
My experience here is not in my subject area. normally I am a technology teacher but here the main subject is Biology. At first I was worried about that but soon I found that teaching techniques carry over from subject to subject. I also found that my knowledge of the trees and plants from my woodworking classes was very close to the content in the rain-forest class I teach here. I also found that my knowledge of physic principals was very useful when explaining tides and optical illusions in the ocean. The majority of the teaching moment I have with student here append somewhere in between subject areas. A conversation about construction leads to a teaching moment about ecosystems, or a conversation about danger of manufacturing objects made of cedar leads to native culture and ancestral teachings.
We often talk about intelligence being the sum of the connection a brain can produce. Therefore it seems that connecting the subject areas such as science art mathematics physical education… wills also helping us create more connection.
In the future I am looking forward to working with the different department withing my school to help student make those connections. STEM”A” classes or project are a perfect opportunity for schools to connect science, technology, Engineering, Math and Art.
