Professional identity

Who am I as a developing professional?

  • I am a life long learner, and it is only through learning that I can improve as a professional. I also believe that nothing is static and that education, culture, people, and needs are always changing. Therefore I have to continue to learn to help my students face the changing world. I engage myself to learn from my peers, exemplar mentors, and students to reach that goal. I believe that in any human interaction there is something to gain from both parties and that my privileged position as a teacher/professional does not place me above that gain.
  • Creating connections is also my responsibility as a professional. I strive to create connections between subject areas within my schools, connections between industry or post secondary education and students, and connections between myself and the parents, the community and the experts in the fields of my teaching.
  • I strive to keep a professional image and represent my profession. I recognize that teachers have a privileged position in our society and a position of trust. I am aware that my appearance and my actions must reflect that position and that level of trust. In public or in my class and school I represent all teachers and the teaching profession.
