Pacific Spirit Walk

pacific-spirit-regional-parkHows it going? Need a break from studying? Well aren’t you lucky….you are currently in one of the most beautiful provinces in Canada that has lush and inspiring forests!

To celebrate this, we want to take you for a walk through the Pacific Spirit Provincial Park that sits beside UBC! We will pick you up outside, in-front of the GAGE Residence at 5:00 pm on ThursdayAugust, 4th  and then take a short (10 min) bus ride to where we will start our walk.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. Please stay on the path at all times
  2. No littering or smoking will be tolerated
  3. Please do not pick any plants – this is an ecologically preserved land 🙂
  4. If you see a dog, please do not approach or pet it until you ask for the owner’s permission!!!!
  5. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear
  6. Runners/ Gym Shoes!
  7. The walk will last about 1 – 1.5 hrs  / we will be back at campus by approximately 7:30 pm
  8. Bring a water bottle & wear sunscreen/bug spray just in case!
  9. Students must sign-in / sign-out

Granville Island Trip

We had a great time with many of you at the baseball game last night!

Tomorrow (Wednesday, July 27th) is our trip to Granville Island/Scavenger Hunt/Fireworks!

Meet us outside of GAGE at 4:45 pm – you will have to come quickly after class. We want to get to Granville Island as early as possible because the Public Market and many shops close at 7pm.

There are tons of AMAZING places to get dinner in the Public Market – so come hungry!!

Public Market Courtyard

 

After Granville Island, some of us will be going to watch the Celebration of Lights Fireworks! This is an optional/informal event so you don’t need to attend if you would rather head back to campus.

The fireworks show is from 10:00 – 10:30 pm.  After fireworks, you will be responsible for getting back to UBC on your own, however Renae will show you where the bus stop is.

Many of you have been asking if your friends from other faculties can join us, and they answer is YES – but they have to pay for their own bus tickets!

Meet us outside, in front of the Gage Residence at 5:30 pm!!!!!
  • Please remember to be on time – if you are late we will have to leave without you and give your ticket away!
  • We will be taking attendance when you arrive at Gage, only those students who have signed up and who have been contacted by me will be able to come. 
  • You will be able to buy food and drinks at the stadium!
  • We will be taking a BUS (#33 / #25) to the stadium together

Sports Festival Tomorrow!

tbirdJust a reminder about the Sports Festival, tomorrow Friday, July 22nd!  
We will be picking you up outside of the GAGE RESIDENCE  at our spot (flags) at 12:30 pm and walking to the event location! Please be on time if you would like to attend 🙂

– leave unnecessary items locked in their residence.

I hope you enjoyed your first few days at UBC! Now it is time to explore VANCOUVER!  On Thursday, July 21st we have our City Tour & Fly Over Canada event! This event is mandatory; all students must attend!

See detailed itinerary below!

TIME WHAT NOTES
8:45 am – 9:00 am
  • Meet OUTSIDE  in front of Gage Residence by the flag poles
·      BE ON TIME!

If you are not here on time we will leave without you!

9:00 am – 9:15 am
  •  Sign-In with Volunteer!
  •  Group Forming
We will divide students into two groups
9:15 am – 9:30 am
  • Get onto busses
Please go to your designated bus!
9:30 am – 12:30 pm
  • City Tour

 

12:30 pm – 1:00 pm
  • Tour ends, get off the busses
  • Walk to Canada Place
We will show you where you can get lunch
1:00 pm – 1:50 pm
  • LUNCH
 

 

1:50 pm – 2:00 pm
  • Meet at designated spot
·      BE ON TIME!
2:00 pm – 2:15 pm
  • Walk to Fly Over Canada
Please stay with the group and don’t wander off to take photos – we will have time for this later
2:15 pm– 3:45 pm
  • Fly Over Canada Ride

3:45 pm – 4:00 pm
  • Meet as a group
  • Walk to 044 bus stop
 Attendance will be taken

If you don’t want to go back to UBC you have to SIGN-OUT

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
  • Transit back to UBC on the 044 bus
The last stop of this bus is UBC’s bus loop by the Walter Gage Residence

 

We will be picking up ALL STUDENTS in front of the Gage residences at our new meeting spot by the flag poles / front entrance of Gage (see photo below)! If you live in Totem or Rits, you will have to walk up to the Gage residence to meet us!

1) Lunch is NOT includedpack your own water, snacks, lunch in a bag

* there are places that you can buy food downtown –  we will show you where

2) BE ON TIME!!!!!  – If you are late, we will leave without you!

* in the morning when you arrive make sure you SIGN IN

* at the end of the event you will have to SIGN OUT

 3) Wear your ORANGE name tag & bring your ID & iMED card!
