My story

This story reflects the views taken by some teachers in the current education systems as it relates to the use of gadgets and social media in the classrooms. Seeing personal gadgets as distraction within the classroom, some educators are willing to reprimand students instead of using their interests to foster learning. However, keeping abreast of the time and the new generation, some instructors are being converted for the betterment of students and the learning situation. As a result, they willing to use blogs and other channels to to teach a wide variety of concepts. In some cases writing is being enhanced as students show a liking to write via social media rather than the traditional paper and pen. I am a big fan of toondoo and thinks it will tell my story perfectly. I am also associated with social media on a daily basis and see it as a future learning space in the classroom; and therefore this story should resonate with all stakeholders in the education sector.

Nice work, Everton! Love the “Disciplinary Centre.” Do your students really call you “sir?”

I had a little trouble reading it, though, because the font is so small. When I zoomed the page to 200%, the quality wasn’t so great. You might want to take pity on John’s eyes and post it a little larger or link to larger version?

I’m planning a cartoon, too – but using Pixton. I’ve been dying to try it for something useful!

  2. Thank you. They do call me sir. I am going to work on the font for sure.

Hi Everton! I like how you tackled the issue of use of gadgets and social media in the classrooms. To whom it is the story addressed? Are you going to use it in real life?

  4. Gordana,

Thank you. I have already started using social media in class for a while now.

Thanks Everton for your story and for using a web 2.0 tool that I didn’t know even existed!

I had a similar difficulty with reading the captions as the font was small and when enlarged it became out of focus.

I like this method of storytelling and it provides the reader with an opportunity to “read between the lines” and I like that about toondoo.

    Thanks!
    Bob

  6. Bob,

I am currently working on the captions. It should be ok shortly.

    Thanks,
    Everton

    Hi Everton,
I am guessing you fixed the font because reading wasn’t a problem for me. Good work. The only problem I have with comics in general is understanding how to read it; who speaks first. I usually depend on either the height of the callout or the direction in which the information flows. Then again the complexity is useful in reading and comprehension.

  8. Great observation Jackie! I will revisit. I actually did some work on the font.

    Everton
