April 26, 2017: The lab recently attended Psychedelic Science 2017 which was the largest-ever scientific meeting on the topic. We presented at three different sessions and you can watch Dr. Walsh’s talk, “Psychedelic Therapy & Third Wave Behaviorism: Prevention of Interpersonal Violence” here.

December 2, 2016: Men’s Journal recently interviewed Dr. Walsh about the review article. Here’s an excerpt: “I believe cannabis should be treated the same as other medicines,” says Walsh. “It should be held to the same standards and subject to the same risk-versus-benefit evaluations. We know that its negative effects are certainly tolerable compared to those of many medications we use, so let’s not leave behind all the people who aren’t finding relief in traditional therapies.” Click here to read the full interview.

November 16, 2016: Dr. Walsh and his team recently reviewed studies of medical cannabis and mental health, as well as reviews on non-medical cannabis use—making the review one of the most comprehensive on the topic to date. View the review here.

October 30, 2016: Dr. Walsh and PhD student Jennifer Langille recently published a study which concluded that psychopathy increased the risk of violence in romantic relationships. The research also found that the association between psychopathic personality traits and violence was consistent across both students and psychiatric patients.

October 17, 2016: Could the Canadian government be thinking about legalizing psychedelics? Policy Horizons Canada, the governmental agency that identifies emerging policy issues and explores policy challenges and opportunities for Canada, has a page on this very topic and they cite research out of the Walsh Lab that showed that the use of psychedelics was associated with a reduction in domestic violence. February 24, 2016: Allard et al v. Canada decision handed down today. Dr. Walsh served as an expert witness for the defence and our lab’s CAMPS research was heavily cited in the judge’s decision.

June 28 – July 2, 2015: The lab was busy at ICRS 2015 with Dr. Walsh and graduate students Kim Crosby and Chris Carroll all presenting research. They presented on a wide range of topics from Cannabis and Aggression, and Cannabis for Arthritis, to the SEED project which was aimed at developing standards and certification for dispensaries.

May 19, 2015: Dr. Walsh recently spoke at the American Psychiatry Association in Toronto, a talk titled, “Translating the Rapidly Expanding Basic and Clinical Knowledge Base of Cannabinoid Medicine Into the Holistic Treatment of Neuropsychiatric Disorders.”

February 25, 2015: Dr. Walsh testified as an expert witness for Allard et al. V. Her Majesty The Queen. Dr. Walsh was questioned about the Cannabis Access for Medical Purposes Survey (CAMPS) he conducted.

November 14, 2014: UBC & Tilray form partnership to study cannabis for the treatment of PTSD. The study is poised to be one of the first in the world to conduct a clinical trial examining cannabis as a treatment for a mental health disorder.

November 12, 2014: Masters student Kim Crosby was awarded $17500 from SSHRC for her research titled, “A dangerous cocktail: an examination of the associations between problematic substance use and experiences of intimate partner violence.”

May 13, 2014: Dr. Walsh and his colleague Philippe Lucas, spoke to the House of Commons about marijuana’s health risks and harms (as well as some of the benefits). Read the transcript here.
