Variables to be collected
* The number of “True” and “False” of two different weather forecast sites ( Yahoo Weather and Accuweather).
* Number of days: 18 days
* Time: 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm
* Number of hours ahead of the actual time when the data is collected: 12 hours
* Type of sources to compare with the weather condition in UBC: Accuweather and Yahoo weather forecast
* Location of data collection: UBC
Sample description
* The accuracy of Yahoo Weather forecast and Accuweather forecast is compared by collecting the data from Accuweather and Yahoo weather forecast 12 hours ahead of time: 9pm, 12am, 3am, 6am, 9am for duration of 18 days.
* The data analyzed is merely a comparison between two different weather forecast sites (Yahoo Weather and Accuweather) and from the results analyzed, we can further prove the reliability of each source.
* Therefore, our subject surveyed is neither based on a sample nor a population.
Sampling method description
* The data is collected from the Accuweather and Yahoo weather forecast 12 hours ahead at 9:00pm, 12:00am, 3:00am, 6:00am and 9:00am for 18 days. Measurements of the actual weather are taken at 9:00am, 12:00pm, 3:00pm, 6:00pm, and 9:00pm of the following day to confirm whether it corresponds to the data collected from the weather forecast sites. Our measurements are determined solely by the judgement from one of our group members on whether the data was true or false as compared to the predicted weather. At the end of 18 days, the number of “true” and number of “falses” is tabulated to give a percentage of how accurate the weather forecast sites in question are.
* In order to test our results, we decided to use two proportion Z-test and Chi square test.
a.)Two proportion Z-test: To compare the proportion of successes between two groups of variables.
b.)Chi square test for association between the two variables: To test the independence of the two variables.
