Which definition of technology or metaphor for technology appeals to you and why? Is there another definition you would like to contribute?
I agree with Dede, Kozma and Trotters definition of technology. ” ……emerging interactive media are tools in service of richer curricula, enhanced pedagogies, more effective organization structures, stronger links between schools and society, and the empowerment of disenfranchised learners” (Kozma, 2003).
The potential for technology to extend, differentiate and broaden student learning is phenomenal. Words that come to mind when I think of technology is “potential for learning”. The use of technology in classrooms has the potential to connect students to the world, make abstract concepts concrete, provide alternate methods to demonstrate learning and provide access for students with learning difficulties. Students are using technology in their daily lives, at home to communicate, explore and construct knowledge, and for some when they come to school access to technology are limited. The use of technology to engage and motivate learners on their terms, using authentic tools that are used in their daily lives is something that we need to promote in our schools.
