{"id":287,"date":"2012-03-19T16:51:46","date_gmt":"2012-03-19T23:51:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wells533\/?page_id=287"},"modified":"2012-03-19T16:51:46","modified_gmt":"2012-03-19T23:51:46","slug":"b-alternate-activity-vft","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wells533\/module-c\/b-alternate-activity-vft\/","title":{"rendered":"B: Alternate Activity VFT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/volcano.oregonstate.edu\/\">Volcano World<\/a> \u00a0is a higher education and K \u2013 12 outreach project offered by the Oregon Space Grant Consortium, through the GeoScience Department at Oregon State University.<\/p>\n<p>VolcanoWorld was founded by Dr. Chuck Wood in 1995 and since then more than fifty professionals and hundreds of students have contributed content or their time to Volcano World.<\/p>\n<p>Students are able to join a group of scientists <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wells533\/files\/2012\/03\/Capture.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-288\" title=\"Capture\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wells533\/files\/2012\/03\/Capture-300x40.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"40\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wells533\/files\/2012\/03\/Capture-300x40.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wells533\/files\/2012\/03\/Capture-1024x139.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wells533\/files\/2012\/03\/Capture.jpg 1041w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>on 8 <a href=\"http:\/\/volcano.oregonstate.edu\/fieldtrips\">virtual expeditions<\/a> to volcanoes around the world. Through the use of text and images students are able to accompany scientists on their research expeditions. This site includes interviews with a number of volcanologists\/scientists who participated in the expeditions.<\/p>\n<p>Volcano World also offers a website geared towards <a href=\"http:\/\/volcano.oregonstate.edu\/oldroot\/kids\/index.html\">kids<\/a>. As part of this website students\/ users can submit questions about volcanoes after searching the FAQS to see if the question has already been asked.
