We are raising money for the fund that UBC opened for Rumana Monzur to cover the immediate costs as explained by UBC’s Dr. Stephen Toope:
“On the financial front, a fund has been established to gather donations to assist Rumana with the immediate costs of this terrible attack. Sandra Shepard at Saint John’s College, Lisa Sundstrom in the Department of Political Science and Megan Hill in the Vice President, Students Office are collecting donations by cash or cheque until June 30th. Further fund-raising options are being developed, but the objective of this week’s activity is to provide some support in the very short term. Rumana’s student colleagues have been instrumental in moving this initiative forward.”
Fassil will offer you a full vegetarian and/or meat Ethiopian dinner for 25 dollars. Of these 25 dollars, 15 dollars per person will go directly to the Rumana-Fund. We’ll have two shifts, one at 18.30h and the second one at 20.00h with room for 30 people each. You can of course donate money.

Payments for the dinner are only taken in cash – additional donations can be made in cheques as well (cheques should be made out to “The University of British Columbia”).
The VP Students Office will deposit the funds and wire a cheque to Rumana’s family after the deadline of June 30th.
