WIMBA is WOW!
My thoughts about Wimba Voice Board->
The first activity that I completed for ETEC 565 66A was to say hello using the Wimba Voiceboard. This was an incredibly cool tool! Wimba’s moto is “people teach people” and I think that is just perfect! I really liked that I could play back my recording and change it if I wanted. It was very interesting to be able to put a voice to a name. I even went back to the recorded hellos on the Wimba Voiceboard after reading some discussions to ‘hear’ some of my classmates’ voices.
I can see that Wimba Voiceboard would have a number of highly effective uses in an educational context:
1. As an introduction for online classes to get to know each other- I like that you can add text to your recording
2. I thought the fact that you can adjust the quality to decrease the amount of bandwidth required is a great option- especially for those with dial-up connectivity.
3. It could be used for an instructor to give feedback.
4.As an instructor I like that I can give min-max lengths for recordings
5.Groups could use it to record messages to each other.
6. As a student in a group I could use it to forward a message via email to group members or instructor.
7. The instructor can select whether he/she is the only one who can start a discussion (thread) or if students can as well and these can be private or public.
All I can say is WOW to Wimba!………………….

Glad you appreciated it! Wait ’til you see Wimba Classroom!
Play around with Wimba Voicemail too: some of our instructors use it to give feedback to students. They record feedback and students receive an email with a link to the audio file.
Voice Direct is the only one I think doesn’t really add anything new: one could just as easily use Skype–which is free!
