Last FM
I loved the LAST FM website. It was so user-friendly (the comprehensive FAQ section was a bit overwhelming- but exceptionally detailed) and immediately drew me in. I had to subscribe! I searched a pretty eclectic and varied groups of artists initially and was completely surprised at how accurately it ‘knew’ my taste in music! When I went to a particular band’s ‘radio station’ I was presented with heaps of music that I forgot I liked and introduced to a few new artists (Dennis Ferrer, David Grey, Umphrey’s McGee…). I think this is a great as well because it gives you so much background information on the artists (I didn’t know the Kings of Leon were all family!). Furthermore, I am going to use it with my Year 8s ICT class! Thank you MET.
My professional background is pretty varied, as are many of yours! I began my career in education after a short (but interesting) dabble in Science where I worked as an analytical chemist for a research and development company in BC- I also did a season as a Fisheries Observer! I have taught in Canada, Korea, New Zealand and most recently in the United Arab Emirates. I have taught elementary/primary, intermediate, ESL and for the past two years I worked as an advisor in the intense education reform project here in Abu Dhabi before returning to the classroom this past August.
I am currently working as the Head of ICT and Science Teacher in the Middle School of the British International School Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

I am taking the MET program to broaden my area of expertise in terms of ICT so I am better able to perform in my current role as well to upskill my pedagogical knowledge of how best to teach and integrate ICT in the classroom. In addition, I am hoping to learn a variety of new skills and discover a range of tools that will enhance my personal and professional growth. The 510 course (MY FIRST) I thought was a good stepping stone into the program. I was quite pleased to see that so many of you have some science background as this will be the main context for integration for me.
My specific interests in technology-supported teaching and learning are:
-POD casting, wikis and blogs (and social networks)
–virtual labs
-technology-supported assessment tools
-how to use technology to maximize/support differentiation in the classroom
In terms of the ETEC 510 Design Project, I am along the same wavelength as Katherine. I think using a social networking site like Facebook (which many students use already and love) as a teaching tool would be a great targeted approach. I am also very keen to learn more about how wikis/blogs can engage students in their learning and with each other.
