A pivotal function of any high school teacher is the support of literacy. This endeavour is a highly complex one and can be done through manifold strategies. The most important thing to remember is that students learn through a variety of modalities. Even if one particular student is struggling to learn to read through the course of the school year, a good teacher’s use of various media will serve to demonstrate to that student that he or she can learn through other means than just orthographic text. Such a strategy will encourage the student and reinforce the fact that the teacher cares enough about that student’s learning techniques to take advantage of them.
