My Inspiration to Teach

I enjoy helping people and supporting others as they learn the studies that will help develop them into thoughtful young people.  I find that the discipline of history is very interesting and that it aids others in understanding human nature, as well as the skill of showing empathy and perspective-taking.

As a young student, I was captivated when a teacher, who was serving as the substitute for our History 12 class, told the story of the Russo-Japanese War.  The man espoused feelings of sheer interest and passion and those feelings rubbed off onto me.  I believe that after beholding such a lesson I wished to become a history teacher myself in the future.

I also believe that I have the right attitude to serve as an empathetic and kind educator because of my experience in grade 5 when I studied that grade with a kind and patient teacher who helped in allowing me to improve my grades which had been lackluster in prior grades.  This person showed me that a teacher could be calm, patient and fair in spite of the fact that previous teachers had treated me in a humiliating or carefree manner.  I’m sure that a lot of the patience and kindness that I exhibited towards the students that I have taught came from my experience with this woman.
