Digital literacy is a great way of supporting students’ learning as it is an engaging and interesting format through which media can be viewed or understood. Moreover, it can serve as a format by which students submit their own work and the use of technology in such a way can be viewed as a skill that students should learn to develop for its own sake – knowing how to make, say, a stop motion animation will help students in their careers composing videos and presentations. Similarly, some students learn better through media.
Therefore, I created a stop motion animation to serve as a great explanation of Columbus’ motives when he traveled to the Americas and subjugated the native peoples there. The video serves as a hook, an introductory to an inquiry topic and a model for what students can do in the class.
