My name is William Jackson, and I’m a fourth year student at UBC majoring in Philosophy. I’m a few credits away from graduating and look forward to be done my undergrad this summer!
I have over 6 years of experience working in retail, and I have attained exceptional skills in communication and customer service. Most of my time spent as a sales associate was focused on communicating with clients, solving their problems, providing extraordinary customer service, and building relationships with clients to promote future sales. I believe customer service is built upon the relationship between the service representative and the customer, and not only do I enjoy creating this relationship, but I thrive in doing so. Above everything else, I am interested in advancing my overall knowledge and experiences with the intention to become a more well-rounded individual.
My academic interests revolve largely around ethics and law, and the combination of the two. What ethical theories are, how they’re formed, which society follows what theory and why, what theory does the law follow and why; these are all things that I have great joy in trying to understand. I also have interest in Epistemology, the study of knowledge, specifically regarding how epistemic injustices affect minority groups.
My professional interests also revolve around the concept of ethics. I have ambitions of finding my way into a law school so I can further study the law in Canada, with special interest to the ethical practices involved in the creation and enforcement of the law. I hope to one day be able to either practice law so I can be around the legal world, or to find myself on a ethics board of some kind, so I can continue my passion for understanding ethical theories and practices.
As for personal interests, I really enjoy being active. I love playing all sorts of sports, going to the gym, and hiking in the mountains. In the summer months I enjoy camping, mainly on the North Shore and up towards Whistler. Yet, nothing quite beats laying next to a lake in the sun, with a good book in your hands!
