Moodle and Wikis

In the last 12 hours I have spent about 4 hours on my Moodle page.  It is very time consuming but very rewarding as I can see it progressing quite nicely.  I have determined my topic and laid out my shell and I have put in a variety of forums for asynchronous discussion.  I have also put in wiki titled “Key Terms” where students will be required to put in at least one key term in Special Relativity, complete with a definition.  I am fairly familiar with wikis (thanks to the MET program) and I see the value in having to contribute to a public location.  I think it helps develop a sense of community among the students.

Excellent. But what do you think of Moodle’s “wiki”. I think it’s rather lame. Have you considered setting up an external wiki and linking it into your site? There’s some free ones out there.

🙂

I haven’t played around with Moodle’s wiki too much but I get the sense it is what you see. I would consider using an external wiki for a more detailed task, but I think Key Term is pretty basic and Moodle will do just fine. Thanks for asking.

Hi Kevin,

I was looking at your Moodle site – wow, really impressive. I really like the buttons that you have across the page (course outline, schedule, introduction, etc.). It seems like a great way to make those items really prominent. Would you mind letting me know how you did that? Is it one of the formats in the settings section?

Heather, you have to upload a picture into Moodle, insert it into the splash page, highlight it and link it to one of your previously made Moodle pages. I hope this helps.
