{"id":10730,"date":"2016-03-10T11:29:06","date_gmt":"2016-03-10T19:29:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/?p=10730"},"modified":"2016-03-10T11:32:53","modified_gmt":"2016-03-10T19:32:53","slug":"ubc-faculty-moving-to-no-confidence-in-board-of-governors-ubcnews-ubcbog-ubc100-bced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2016\/03\/ubc-faculty-moving-to-no-confidence-in-board-of-governors-ubcnews-ubcbog-ubc100-bced\/","title":{"rendered":"#UBC faculty moving to &#8216;no confidence&#8217; in Board of Governors #ubcnews #ubcbog #ubc100 #bced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1SGAhOPcl741OtXQuokUhzzShT1OoLijEHxHbgB1y71s\/pub\" target=\"_blank\">Building from the power of petition<\/a>, faculty members at the University of British Columbia are moving toward a vote of no confidence\u00a0in the Board of Governors.<\/p>\n<p>A &#8220;no confidence&#8221; vote will\u00a0set a new precedent at UBC wherein accountability in shared governance takes on meaning.<\/p>\n<p>Since University executives scrambled on 7 August 2015 to announce the sudden resignation of President Gupta and seal\u00a0records related to the resignation, confidence in the Board\u00a0of Governors has progressively eroded.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facultyassociation.ubc.ca\/#President\" target=\"_blank\">Faculty Association of UBC has scheduled a\u00a0Special General Meeting to discuss the motion on Tuesday, March 22 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Members should have received a notice regarding the presentation of a petition to the UBC Faculty Association signed by over 450 faculty seeking to have a membership vote on a no confidence motion.
