{"id":1684,"date":"2006-10-11T14:13:09","date_gmt":"2006-10-11T22:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/10\/too-asian\/"},"modified":"2006-10-11T14:13:09","modified_gmt":"2006-10-11T22:13:09","slug":"too-asian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/10\/too-asian\/","title":{"rendered":"Too Asian?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Inside Higher Ed<\/i>: <a href=\"http:\/\/insidehighered.com\/news\/2006\/10\/10\/asian\">Too Asian?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRachel, for an Asian, has many friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the kind of line that apparently is turning up more and more in letters of recommendation on behalf of Asian American applicants to top colleges, according to experts on a panel called \u201cToo Asian?\u201d at the annual meeting of the National Association for College Admission Counseling.<\/p>\n<p>When the recommendation line was cited as the kind of bias \u2014 even perhaps well intentioned bias \u2014 that pervades the admissions process, many in the audience at first seemed angry that in 2006 people would reference race in that way.
