{"id":1984,"date":"2006-12-18T17:07:49","date_gmt":"2006-12-19T01:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/12\/casting-a-wide-net\/"},"modified":"2006-12-18T17:07:49","modified_gmt":"2006-12-19T01:07:49","slug":"casting-a-wide-net","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/12\/casting-a-wide-net\/","title":{"rendered":"Casting a Wide Net"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Inside Higher Ed<\/em>: <a href=\"http:\/\/insidehighered.com\/news\/2006\/12\/18\/eeoc\">Casting a Wide Net<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Bush administration has not always been friendly to affirmative action in higher education \u2014 coming out against the University of Michigan\u2019s affirmative action admissions plans, for example, when they were reviewed by the Supreme Court in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>But with one of the leading groups opposing affirmative action in higher education attacking the way colleges try to diversify their applicant pools for faculty and administrative positions, one of the administration\u2019s key civil rights agencies is backing colleges and angering their conservative critics.
