{"id":3292,"date":"2007-11-20T10:00:44","date_gmt":"2007-11-20T18:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2007\/11\/another-call-for-assessment\/"},"modified":"2007-11-20T10:00:44","modified_gmt":"2007-11-20T18:00:44","slug":"another-call-for-assessment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2007\/11\/another-call-for-assessment\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Call for Assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inside Higher Ed: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2007\/11\/20\/assess\">Another Call for Assessment<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As college associations unveil new ways for colleges to report on what they do, and Congress debates how much accreditors should ask of colleges, an effort has been going on for months to craft a national statement on student learning and assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Drafts of the document leaked to Inside Higher Ed, by educators concerned about the statement\u2019s direction, suggest that colleges commit to \u201cgather evidence\u201d about the success of students in meeting certain education goals; that the evidence should be shared widely and used by accreditors; and that in some cases this material should be used to compare institutions. \u201cSuch information and evidence allows comparisons, where appropriate, between and among institutions and may suggest areas for improvement,\u201d the draft says.
