{"id":757,"date":"2006-03-16T08:39:58","date_gmt":"2006-03-16T16:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/03\/does-pace-u-support-free-speech\/"},"modified":"2006-03-16T08:39:58","modified_gmt":"2006-03-16T16:39:58","slug":"does-pace-u-support-free-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/03\/does-pace-u-support-free-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"Does Pace U support free speech?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MRZine: <a href=\"http:\/\/mrzine.monthlyreview.org\/kelly150306.html\">Does Pace U support free speech?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>n Monday, March 13, students from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.campusantiwar.net\/\">Campus Antiwar Network (CAN)<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studentsforademocraticsociety.org\/\">Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)<\/a> &#8212; joined by other students, professors, original SDSers, and CAN members from CCNY &#8212; launched one of the largest demonstrations Pace University&#8217;s campus had seen, against Pace&#8217;s denial of our free speech rights.  The university, not accustomed to being challenged, let alone having to deal with large protests, was not prepared for it.<\/p>\n<p>While Pace University President David Caputo was giving his &#8220;State of the University&#8221; address, an annual ritual of self-congratulation, we exposed the Real State of the University: infringement of civil liberties; union-busting of the adjunct professors&#8217;, cafeteria workers&#8217;, and transportation workers&#8217; unions; and a university deficit of $3.2 million.
