{"id":8109,"date":"2010-04-06T15:36:40","date_gmt":"2010-04-06T23:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/?p=8109"},"modified":"2010-04-06T15:36:40","modified_gmt":"2010-04-06T23:36:40","slug":"the-adjunct-health-insurance-catch-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2010\/04\/the-adjunct-health-insurance-catch-22\/","title":{"rendered":"The Adjunct Health Insurance Catch-22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inside Higher Ed: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2010\/04\/06\/insurance\">The Adjunct Health Insurance Catch-22<br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nTracy Donhardt was so excited that she and fellow adjuncts in the School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis had found a way to get health insurance together that she wanted to let other adjuncts know they could sign up, too.<\/p>\n<p>But when she asked the university\u2019s human resources department for help getting the word out, the whole plan was, almost immediately, shattered. \u201cI contacted them, said, \u2018Hey, look at we did, isn\u2019t it great?&#8217; \u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Like so many other adjuncts nationwide, IUPUI&#8217;s non-tenure track faculty worked without health insurance. The chance to secure an affordable policy seemed sure to please.
