{"id":892,"date":"2006-05-09T17:29:42","date_gmt":"2006-05-10T01:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/05\/fact-checking-david-horowitz\/"},"modified":"2006-05-09T17:29:42","modified_gmt":"2006-05-10T01:29:42","slug":"fact-checking-david-horowitz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/2006\/05\/fact-checking-david-horowitz\/","title":{"rendered":"Fact-checking David Horowitz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Inside Higher Ed<\/i>: <a href=\"http:\/\/insidehighered.com\/news\/2006\/05\/09\/report\">Fact-checking Horowitz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the moment in February that David Horowitz\u2019s new book appeared, scholars have been poking at it, identifying errors and what they consider to be distortions (even as Horowitz was praised by many conservative talk show hosts, who have helped him boost sales).<\/p>\n<p>Today, a coalition of academic and civil liberties groups is releasing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freeexchangeoncampus.org\/index.php?option=com_docman&amp;Itemid=25\">more detailed analysis<\/a> of the Horowitz book,The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America. In \u201cFacts Count,\u201d the debunking document being released today, Horowitz\u2019s book is slammed as \u201csloppy in the extreme.\u201d The analysis also says that the details included in the book suggest that Horowitz is not concerned with the students he says he is trying to protect, but is actually trying to punish professors whose views he doesn\u2019t like.<\/p>\n<p>Among the findings in \u201cFacts Count&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Horowitz does not cite a single example of a student having his or her grade changed because of political views \u2014 despite his repeated statements that the \u201cAcademic Bill of Rights\u201d is needed to prevent such grade punishment.
