The website is made by a plant nursary in Califonia. Most of the plants in this website is common is Califonia. However, there a still some overlap between the plants in Califonia with the plants in Vancouver because of the coastal climate.

The tree species in the website is limited but there are more shrub and grass. The pictures are clear. The maintaince of a plant is also elaborate.

Plant Lust

http://plantlust.com/genus_index/A/

There are photos and description by different people for each plants, which is very helpful to me to learn the most outstanding characristic of the plant.

Plant type, growing conditions and features are shown in the website, although very concise. Useful cultivars are also shown in the website, but most of them don’t have pictures.

R.G. Hosie, Native TREES of Canada

The native plants which are hard to find elsewhere is easily found in this book. It has the picture and description of the pictures for each plants. The features of the plants are clearly shown from the pictures. The diagrams of distribution are also very helpful, because it shows the preferred climate of the plant intuitively.

Evaluation of Sources for List 7&8

These are the plants I know:

https://plantmaterials.wordpress.com/portfolio/phyllostachys-aurea/

The website is probably done by UBC student. The lists are in accordance with the list we learn. I find it especiallt useful because it has all the information needed for the blog. Howerver, photos are a little bit limited.

The most interesting thing is search by types/ leaf arrangement/ zone. I think it’ll be useful for the final exam.

Bean’s trees and shrubs:

http://www.beanstreesandshrubs.org/advanced-search/

can search plants in three ways:“Search type select Main names to search for Bean’s and modern names, Include synonyms to search for Bean’s synonyms as well, and Common names to search common names only”

Leon Gray, Flowering plants

The book only frocuses on common flowering plants, so only some of the plants we learn are covered in the book.

Howerver, since it’s autumn now, a lot of important flowering plants are not blooming in this time of the year, this book helps me know what their flowers are like.

ordered in family name, easy to find plants. The pictures are clear and nice.
