What should be included in business ethics?

BlackBerry opened a tech centre in Argentina. It previously opened one in Buenos Aires. Those centre aim to foster the most talented software developers in order to invite them to innovate and create initiatives for mobile computing. What has been written above is the main idea of the news that posted on The Economist in 2013.

Besides the investments in education, BlackBerry also exerts efforts in other fields to show its positive attitude towards social responsibilities. It claimed that the operation of their business will be in accordance with the laws and bring benefit to the environment and economy.

However, these actions cost a lot. The financial situation of BlackBerry have been in downturn since the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy series came out. The company confronted several difficulties in running their business and possibly unable to continue the high-cost program related to environment, education, employment, etc. Thus, BlackBerry’s can hardly get a reward from those long-term programs, which,to some extent, make loss.

Therefore, I strongly agree with Milton Friedman’s point that the only social responsibility of business is to increase profits so long as operating without fraud and deception. Moreover, I think that other so-called responsibilities can just be methods to advertise the company or build reputation but not as serious as business ethics.
