Due to the complex historical background, the conflict between aboriginal people and colonist has been exist since Canada was created and has become more and more fierce. In result, many business activities were halted in order to protect the aboriginal people’s right and appease conflict.

The federal government has been in charge of aboriginal affairs for about 150 years and has issued many policies to regulate first nations. One of them is called The Indian Act. It was enacted to control most aspects of aboriginal life. It was once aimed to kill the Indian in the child, which means obliterating their memory as a first nation when they were young. However, in the past 20 years, because of the increasing awareness of human rights, both the aboriginal people argued for their rights more frequently and the government protected their interests more. As a consequence, many natural resources were facing belongingness and development issues. For instance, Northern Superior Resources have been forced to stop their exploration in a remote area of Ontario in 2011 due to the conflict with First Nation. And the Ontario government tended to protect the First Nation’s right.
