Post #4 – “Can Business Schools Teach Ethics?”

I found this Blog post by Chris MacDonald  interesting as well as relevant to my experience at Business School.

MacDonald discusses the effectiveness of teaching business students about ethics. He has some relevant arguments about teaching students in the environment that they will be dealing with. This is an interesting approach but when dealing with huge business classes it would be hard to cover all scenarios in class.

In addition, he mentions that business ethics should be taught in all places and not just business school because most fields are closely related to business. MacDonald mentions a question that he asked his business students – question. The answer given by the students backs up his notion that not only will business students be the ones dealing with business ethics and that therefore everyone should be educated about ethics, including students in (for example) Arts. In my first few weeks at business school I learnt business ethics; from this experience I can conclude that it was very interesting and important but I can only hope that it will stay with me for when I will be making business decisions of my own and affecting others around me.
