Personal Statement for GEOB 270:
As an International Relations major at UBC, learning how to use GIS was a great complement to my interdisciplinary learning as I now have an effective tool to present many of the social, political, and economic phenomena that I learned about in my studies.

As a GEOB 270 student, I learned how to use ESRI’s ArcMap Desktop 10.6.1 software to manipulate geographic datum in order to create informative maps, including inter-city housing affordability maps, emergency response route maps, environmental impact assessment maps, hotspot maps, and geographically weighted regression maps.

Ultimately, I believe GEOB 270 has provided me with the practical tools to simplify the complex world that we live in while also shedding light on the way maps can be employed to manipulate public perception to fulfill the mapmaker’s agenda.
