The below illustrates some of my best works from the technical writing course this semester. The various assignments helped me to tailor my writing styles for different audience and prepared me to communicate effectively in a professional setting.
The definitions assignment showcased the importance and role of definitions in technical writing. During this assignment, I was able to identify a specific type of audience and select the right level of details for their needs. This assignment taught me how to communicate effectively to non-technical readers. This will certainly be beneficial for a software developer to explain his/her product to non-technical end users.
The formal report proposal allowed the students to systematically approach a research paper. During this assignment, I was able to identify a potential problem, plan for primary and secondary data sources, brainstorm for solutions, and eventually recommend action for the problem. This can be a highly transferrable skill to systematically solve a computer science related problem logically.
The business letters assignment was a good practice for a reader-centered writing. In this assignment, I created a complaint and response letter to a perceived service failure at a hotel. This is a highly practical writing style that can be applied to everyday communication at work.
Peer Review of Formal Report Proposal
The peer review assignment was
designed for me to provide suggestions for one of my classmates on his formal report proposal. I was able to use my expertise in the hospitality industry to provide some suggestions on his proposal for a restaurant owner. This assignment taught me how to strategically give constructive feedback, which is another crucial skill to possess in any professional field.
