Welcome to my page! My name is Belinda Yip and I am completing my baccalaureate education at the University of British Columbia currently. My interest in dental hygiene was sparked first by my family. My mother has been a Certified Dental Assistant for over 20 years, while my father is an optician. Years before my birth, both of my parents were also Western medicine physicians in China. My family moved from Hong Kong to Toronto, Canada in 1996 where my parents embarked on their current careers. Growing up, health-care has always been a priority in my family, and I developed natural affinity towards science. My first year of undergraduate studies was done at McGill University, studying in the Faculty of Arts and Science (inter-faculty). However, being away from home and isolated, I began to miss my family and home more in Vancouver and consequently moved back after a year. I grew more fond of my mother’s hard work and dedication both at work and at home, and with this is I decided to also pursue a career in the dental field.
Outside of school, I have engaged in a multitude of part-time jobs, including retail sales, serving, tutoring and pharmacy assisting. Currently, I hold two jobs, one as a dental receptionist at Ackroyd Dental Center in Richmond, British Columbia, and I also work as a filing assistant in the Faculty Relations sector for the Human Resources department at the University of British Columbia. Although the hours I have spent at my jobs was unideal as it impeded on the time I spent doing coursework, it also taught me to be organized and manage my time wisely. In my free time, I like to do yoga and aerial arts, as well as spending time with family and friends. However, my favourite past-time has to be spending time with my dogs. Pictured are Happy (Bichon Frise) and Maple (red Poodle).
Throughout the site, you will find artifacts/evidence that have shaped me as the primary health-care provider I am today. Begin my exploring the pages on the top, which will provide an overview on my personal philosophy and definition of primary care provider. My personal development plan can also be found in this area. On the right side, you will see categories for evidence of my continued competency throughout my education. Hope you enjoy!
