Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I understand that content is very important, but beyond that I believe that one of my main goals is to inspire curiousity and critical thinking. Rather than just being someone who delivers information to students, I hope to:
- Create relevant connections from classroom material to life experiences
- Inspire students to write and read throughout their life (life-long learner!)
- Increase confidence in literary skills (reading, writing, speaking etc.)
- Have fun! Often we forget that learning is fun, so one of my biggest goals is to bring back the joy of education in the classroom
Furthermore, teachers have the amazing opportunity to interact with over 180 students a day and can provide much more than just content. High school is also a very turbulent period of time for students, thus my teaching philosophy also focuses on nurturing the student as a whole because not all students may view academics in the same way and may not want to pursue post-secondary education. This includes:
- Creating a safe and secure environment
- Building rapport for strong student-teacher relationships
- Giving students autonomy to be accountable for their own learning
- Prepare students with strategies and practices for life not solely academic achievement
- Provide support for social and emotional learning
