The whole world was shocked by Volkswagen emissions scandal (Check this link for explanation). For the short-term, it is unquestionable that Volkswagen got a lot of benefits. In 2014, Volkswagen was the top sales in the world because they made people believe in their “low emission” cars.
However, for the lone-term, firstly, this behavior not only cost VW a huge sum compensation and fine but also damaged its credibility fatally. Secondly, VW’s 11 million unqualified cars cause the irreversible damage to the environment which is priceless. Thirdly, the whole European capital market was affected by this scandal, also, Germany manufacture industry was humiliated. As a result, the beneficiaries from this cheating behavior are VW’s rivals.
As the truth was seeped out, not only the government but also the ENGO( Environmental Non-Governmental Organization) and lawyers will claim for compensation from VW. VW is now like a sheep that fell into the water, sharks and crocodiles are fighting for its meat and blood.
Last but not least, I still have some unsolved questions: first, the top executives of VW said that they have no relationship with this scandal, but these defeat devices could cost millions dollars from research and development to use, how can the technicists did this on their own? Second, Audi announced that 2 million Audis have the defeat device early this morning. Are these signs suggested that the Germany manufacture industry has vulnerabilities now? Third, Toshiba was caught because of its false account in July, companies like Mitsubishi, Toyota and Olympus were all did something illegal and immoral. I want to ask that why these companies keep challenging the moral bottom line.
